How To Find A Mentor

Many mentors are folks that have been paid for a service first. I mentor a lot of stylists but I won’t even consider mentoring unless they have been in my orbit via a class or workshop.

I have occasionally witnessed someone being absolutely exceptional and made an exception.

Mentors don’t have time or energy to waste. You have to be someone the mentor sees pouring into will at least 10x the ROI. Not necessarily financially but they must be able to know you will listen, apply, iterate, and succeed.

How To Find Your Mentor?

  1. identify what you need from a mentor.

  2. Then identify 5 potential folks that have exceptional and long term achievement in what you’re looking to do.

  3. Scope out industry conferences and speaking events that folks you are interested in mentoring you are featured at.

  4. Get in the room with them during dinners and cocktail events. Be in the orbit.

  5. Once a relationship has developed ask them formally to mentor you in something very specific that only they can help with.

This will take time, money, and effort but it’s worth it.
