Loyal to Results

Making a play off the words of the great rapper Juicy J “These brands . . . They for everybody.”

There are two types of stylists. The ones who drink the kool aid and the ones who don’t. As an Aveda Institute grad, I’ve witnessed that one of the first things that happens when you hitch your wagon to a product company is complete indoctrination.

Stylists whose paychecks aren’t signed by a particular corporation, have been paying to market these companies to their clients with massive wholesale orders, window collateral, and service names. Stylists sing their praises, build entire businesses around them, and are devastated when the company needs to pivot or shift their business and business model. We bind our coins and credibility to an inanimate business entity that we don’t own.

Products are tools, not the foundational structures of our businesses. It is up to us to use the tools that best serve the individual clients in our chair sans brand loyalty.

At Cut It Kinky we are brand agnostic stylists and educators that are loyal to our clients results. Being results driven requires us to work with individual products from multiple product lines that have a purpose and meet or exceed the expectations of our clients.

This is why we don’t offer a product specific class or workshop. Our Enrichment track explores the foundation of the curls + the culture. It is an introduction to why we use the tools (products) we use, when to use those tools, and how to use them based on the unique needs of the client sitting in our styling chairs. It is a real life display of the practical processes we take salon clients through to achieve their curl goals.

It’s time to be purposeful about our art and our businesses. Lets remove the feels from decisions we aren’t in the room to contribute to or have the power to make. Corporate ownership changes, product formulation + sourcing changes. Marketing tactics and educational methods change. Our business can remain steady through all of it if we keep in mind what really matters, the results we achieve for our clients.
